GP Federations
Forming a Federation for Healthcare
Forming a federation to take forward either General Practice and/or GP Commissioning is something we are now regularly being asked to support. Reasons for this vary; however, there is one common theme in this approach; put simply it can help GPs share expertise, reduce costs and adopt common approaches to the day to running of both the Practices and PBC. All GP practices are now being directed to be part of a Commissioning consortia or federation as part of the latest government White Paper
So what exactly is a federation?
A federation is best described as group of people united in a relationship and having some interest, activity, or purpose in common. In relation to healthcare it’s no different; here the key relationships lie is the commonality of delivering, or commissioning, services; in essence developing mature relationships for more effective working between GPs and Practices.
How do we do it?
Scott McKenzie Consultancy has expertise in developing federated approaches, for GP Commissioning, and has done this PCT wide in both Salford and Lambeth, with smaller scale versions in other areas (please email for full details).
At the same time we also have a number of projects to bring Practices together in to one building to develop a federated model for delivery of core GMS/PMS services.
Each project differs one from the other; however, our expertise here lies in developing the corporate approach to running the project, the practices and ultimately the services.
In either instance we start with your end in mind and develop the appropriate structures and governance to ensure we deliver the required outcomes. Our expertise lies in delivering practical processes and work-practices which transform your vision into reality, and ultimately enable you to realise the benefits of working within a federation.
